We've been working with Marco at Blood Brothers in Portugal for many years, and are stoked to be kicking off our 2021 series of Shaper Stories by introducing you to his boards and brand.

We sent Marco our Shaper Stories questions to find out a bit more about him and his boards...

Tell us where you’re from and where you’re based.

I was born in Setubal and I am based in Costa de Caparica, Portugal.

What inspired your logo/brand name?

The logo was inspired by a diamond shape and the brand was inspired by the brotherhood between street friends, artists and everyone who likes surf, sk8 and the arts.

Tell us a bit about how, when and why you got into shaping.

I started shaping because of my friends.  They started asking me to fix all the bumps and "scars" on their own boards and I ended up starting to think how I could improve the performance of a surfboard.  Coming from my roots, the skateboard, I was enthusiastic about performance.  The first time I got in the shaping room was in 1999, when I started shaping boards for my friends and I.

What kind of boards do you mostly shape?

Longboards and Twin Fins.

What’s your preferred fin set up to a) shape and b) surf?

The SENSEI Model longboard is my favourite shape. The fin shape I prefer is the Macho Fins Drifan fin.

Best tip for the budding shaper?

Keep your focus, don't worry about making a special board, because all of them are unique.  And, "Be Water My Friend".

What’s been the most memorable board you’ve ever shaped & why?

The best board for me, so far, is the MASTER T model.  A 9'8 longboard, with a fantastic square tail that allows me to perform maneuvers smoothly.

What's the bonus of using Macho Fins in your boards?

The Macho Fins models are very compatible with my surfboard models, and that, for me, is what brotherhood and synergy means. THANK YOU for letting me be a part of your Family.

Thanks Marco!  And you can check out Blood Brothers on their Facebook and Instagram.
